A man reading a book with a candle in his hand

Under the candle light, you’ll find your missing coin

Why is it that every time I rushed out of the house in a hurry to go somewhere, yes, early morning, just about a couple of minutes before rush hour, I often caught myself frantically looking for my phone. Inconveniencing everyone around the house, only to find out that I was using it, talking to a dear friend all along!

See, the thing is, the phone was in my possession. It was the thought of losing it that clogged my mind, sending me into a panic, making me think that I couldn’t live that day without it!

Such are the feelings most go through upon losing our dear valuables.

What about our spiritual gifts?

What about your spiritual gifts? Does their loss cause you to lose your mind? If not, you should because they are your tools of trade in the world.

The Bible clearly states for you to count your blessings. At any point that you find one missing, light a candle, sweep your house, and seek diligently until you find it (Luke 15:8).

The loss of spiritual gifts can only be found in the realm of the spirit. That is why the Bible is telling you to light your candle. Meaning that you are to call on the Spirit of God, so that the light of His presence can ignite your spirit, causing you to see, and reclaim your valuables.

It rolled off your being.

Like the lost coin, your gift may have rolled off your being because of comfort, distraction, or simply sin. You are to light your candle, as comfort or distraction may have overshadowed you, causing it to roll off your being.

As in Samson’s case, comfort and distraction overshadowed him, causing him to lose his strength (Judges 16). Or the woman in the parable, who had ten pieces of silver and lost one piece in Luke 15.

I do not know what you have lost in the spiritual realm. It could be your joy, peace, courage, self-esteem, wealth, speed, etcetera. But the Word is saying for you to sweep your house clean. As in, become aware of the loss.

  • Then act by getting rid of the spiritual dust that has clung to your being before it settles and becomes a deep stain. Which may require more than a broom to sweep.

  • And lastly, seek diligently for it until you find it. Confidence that the Holy Spirit, God’s mercy, and unfailing love are by your side, helping you in your diligent search.

Rejoice and Retain

Like the joy experienced in discovering that the ‘missing’ phone you searched for once was in your possession all along.

Or that lost coin referenced in the parable, which I frequently envisioned to have been located under the bed by the woman.

May you find your lost spiritual giftings under the candlelight, and may you hold a feast and testify of the Lord’s great light and power.

As always if you hear the Creators’ heartbeat. Respond.
